Does changing hosting providers affect the SEO effort and rankings of a site?

Changing the provider has been commonly believed to affect the Search Engine Optimisation and Page Rank efforts. However, it seems like it is wrong as far as the Page Ranking is concerned. Under normal circumstance this should not happen!
Make sure though that you still keep your domain name after the tansfer. The domain name is the one which affects the PageRank, so if you do not change that one, it should not affect you. Nevertheless, in some instances your SEO efforts might be affected.
