1. Provide your name, avatar and a short bio

Always include your name and a short bio in your Twitter profile. People want to know who you are. Make sure to use your photo or a custom avatar so others can remember and recognize you.

2. Be social
Be social and interact. Answer the questions people ask and be proactive and participate in discussions. Retweet if you find something interesting and be kind and say thanks to people who follow you. Add something to the conversation. Don’t tweet just for the thrill of posting something.

3. Don’t over tweet
While there are people who are interested in reading dozens of your tweets one after the other, most are not. Flooding is not polite so try not to overdo it. If your followers have too much to read and explore, they might easily choose to ignore your tweets.

4. Follow, unfollow and block whoever you wish
On Twitter, you are free to follow and unfollow whoever you wish. You’re also free to block people from viewing your tweets. When someone follows you, you are not obligated to follow them back.

5. Retweet in 140 characters
Use tinyURL or is.gd when you post a link. Add value to your tweets and make them easy to understand and scan.

6. Host different contests & events for your followers
Host different contests, surveys and events for your followers to keep them interested and engaged in your tweets. You may want to host a giveaway event on Twitter for your followers only. Freebies are always a guarantee of getting new followers and this will build your credibility in your niche.

#1 Adrian :

Thanks for your positing on Rules. Last time i got a link where i found about how to increase the followers, I posted in my tweets and in 2 days i got a msg from twitter that you tweet is deleted becuase it is looking like spam.

We need to be careful in posting our tweets too.
